Solution

Adrenal cortex:

  1. The outermost layer of the adrenal gland is the adrenal cortex.
  2. A lot of functions are performed in the human body by the endocrine glands that are also known as the adrenal gland.
  3. The three types of hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex are: Glucocorticoids, Mineralocorticoids and Androgenic steroid.

Glucocorticoids:

  1. Glucocorticoids fight in inflammation.
  2. Glucocorticoids work with the immune system and treat wide range of health problems.
  3. In order to maintain the levels of glucose in the blood that are required to mount a stress response, cortisols are secreted.

Mineralocorticoids:

  1. Mineralocorticoids regulate salt and water balance.
  2. Mineralocorticoids help in sodium and potassium transport which is essential to life.
  3. Aldosterone is the main mineralocorticoid.
  4. Deoxycorticosterone and progesterone are also endogenous hormones with mineralocorticoid activity.

Androgenic steroid:

  1. Androgenic steroid increase the synthesis of proteins in cells.
  2. Androgenic steroid help in the growth of bones and appetite.
  3. Male sexual traits are regulated by androgens, which are steroid hormones; testosterone is the main androgen produced by the testes.
  4. Both growth-stimulating and masculinizing or anabolic effects can be attributed to androgens.
