What are the 3 types of lenses?
The 3 types of lenses are:
1. Convex lens:
1.1 Convex lens is thicker at the centre and gets thinner towards the edges.
1.2 This lens converges a straight beam of light.
1.3 In convex lens both sides of the lens are curve outward, it is also called a converging lens.
1.4 A convex lens can form both real and virtual image depending on the position of the object.
2. Concave lens:
2.1 concave lens is thinner at the centre and gets thicker towards the edges.
2.2 This lens diverges a straight beam of light.
2.3 In concave lens both sides of the lens are curve inward, it is also called a diverging lens.
2.4 A concave lens can form virtual, erect and diminished image.
3. Plano lens:
3.1 In the Plano lens, one side is flat and the other side is either like a convex lens or a concave lens.
3.2 A real image is formed when an object is placed in front of a plano-convex lens.
3.3 A plano-concave lens has negative focal point and produces a virtual image.
