Open in App
Solution

Membrane proteins:

  1. Membrane proteins are proteins that are attached to the cell membrane.
  2. Membrane proteins take part in recognition, attachment and antigenic properties of the membrane.
  3. Based on the association of the protein with the membrane, membrane proteins are classified as: Peripheral proteins and Integral proteins.

Peripheral proteins:

  1. Peripheral proteins are present on the outer surface of the phospholipid bilayer but not embedded in the core.
  2. Example: Cytochrome C, Cupredoxins, etc.

Integral proteins:

  1. Integral proteins are embedded in the phospholipid bilayer.
  2. Example: Insulin receptors, Glycophorin, etc.
