Question

What are the two different energies a free-falling body will have?

Open in App
Solution

Free-fall:

Free-fall is described in Newtonian physics as the motion of an object where gravity is the only force acting on it.

A free-falling body will have two different energies given below.

  1. They will have kinetic energy as well as potential energy.
  2. When an object falls freely, its potential energy decreases but its kinetic energy increases, so that its total mechanical energy remains constant.

Thus, the two energies associated with the free-falling body are potential energy and kinetic energy.
