Autonomic nervous system (ANS)
The ANS is a part of the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
It helps in the regulation of various involuntary functions like respiration, circulation, digestion, etc by relaying messages from the CNS to the smooth muscles and involuntary organs like the bladder, pupil, and heart.
It is further classified into two parts-
Sympathetic nervous system
Parasympathetic nervous system.
These systems act in an antagonistic manner to each other.
