Question

What are the 2 properties of waves?

Open in App
Solution

Wave

The two properties of waves are:

  1. Amplitude:
1.1 The maximum displacement of the wave from the mean position is called the amplitude of the wave. This maximum displacement can be measured from the equilibrium position. In figure the equilibrium position is the straight line represented by the x-axis.
1.2 Amplitude is represented as A and it is measured in meters(m).
  2. Frequency:
2.1 The number of vibrations passing a fixed point in one second is called frequency.
Frequency=1Timeperiod So by this formula if the time taken for a wave to pass is ½ second then the frequency is 2 per second.
2.2 The unit of frequency is Hertz(Hz).
  3. Wavelength: In physics, the wavelength is the spatial period of a periodic wave—the distance over which the wave's shape repeats.
