Question

What are the two types of asexual reproduction involving specific reproductive organs?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

In asexual reproduction, no reproductive organs are required as such because only one organism reproduces (either by mitosis or amitosis). There is no formation of gametes and formation of zygote. It occurs in lower animals like protozoa, sponges, coelenterates, some worms as well as some tunicates. There are various kinds of asexual reproduction.

The two types of asexual reproduction are as follows :
1. Binary fission- Most common form, in which the parent cell divides into two daughter cells under favourable conditions. The nucleus divides first followed by division of the cytoplasm. Ex-Amoeba
2. Budding- In this process, an outgrowth or a bud formation occurs in the parent body, which later detaches and forms a new daughter organism. Ex-Hydra
