A battery is a device that transforms chemical energy into electrical energy. 1.1 It can include one or more electrical cells. In essence, every battery is a galvanic cell that generates chemical energy through redox reactions between two electrodes.
There are two types of batteries: 2.1 Primary or non-rechargeable battery: 2.1.1The primary battery is made for only single use. 2.1.2 In primary batteries the redox reactions proceeded in only one direction. 2.1.3 Once it is used, it cannot be recharged and is thrown away. 2.2 Secondary or rechargeable battery: 2.2.1An electrochemical cell known as a secondary galvanic cell can function as both an electrolytic and a galvanic cell. 2.2.2 Secondary batteries are rechargeable, the electrodes are energised by running a current in the reverse way, from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. 2.2.3 These are charged by using an electric current.
