What are the types of combustion? Explain each with suitable examples.
Types of combustion
Combustion is mainly of three types:
(1) Rapid combustion
(2) Spontaneous combustion
(3) Explosion
1. Rapid combustion: A combustion in which substance bums rapidly and produces heat and light is known as rapid combustion.
For example, Immediate burning of cooking gas in a gas stove to give heat and light, Burning of petrol, kerosene and LPG, etc.
2. Spontaneous combustion: The combustion reaction which occurs on its own (without the help of any external heat) is known as spontaneous combustion.
For example: Burning of white phosphorus in air, Forest fire, etc.
3. Explosion: The combustion in which large amounts of gases are evolved with the production of a tremendous amount of neat; light and sound is called explosion,
For example: When a cracker is ignited, a sudden reaction, an oxidation process takes place, and in which at a high-speed large amount of gas is evolved with the production of a tremendous amount of heat, light and sound.
