Dwarfism:

  1. The abnormal growth results in a shortening of height.
  2. An adult is referred to as a dwarf if his height is about 120cm.
  3. More than 70% of cases of dwarfism are due to genetic factors and 30% are caused due to deficiency of growth hormone.

The two types of dwarfism are:

  1. Achondroplasia
  1. The type of dwarfism is characterized by short limbs and medium-sized trunks
  2. In some cases, the head of the individual becomes a giant.

2. Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia

  1. The type of dwarfism is characterized by a very short trunk with numerous other irregularities in the spinal cord and limbs.
  2. The arms of the individual look very long and complications in the eyes are also common.
