Types of glycolipids:

  1. Cerebrosides:
  • The type of glycolipids found in the peripheral nervous system and brain.
  • Cerebrosides protect the brain and nerve cells.

2. Gangliosides:

  • The type of neutral compounds found in the plasma membrane of neurons and composed of residues of sialic acid.
  • Gangliosides are the main components of the cell membranes of animals.
