Waves:

  1. A wave is a disturbance that causes energy to move from one location to another.
  2. As a wave moves, only energy, not matter, is transferred. The medium is the substance through which a wave travels.
  3. That medium oscillates back and forth before returning to its original position.

Two types of waves are given below:

  1. Transverse waves: They are similar to those found on the water, with the surface moving up and down.
  2. Longitudinal waves: They are similar to those found in sound, with alternating compressions and rarefactions in a medium.
