  1. Support and shape - Skeleton provides a definite framework to soft parts and gives a definite shape. ​
  2. Protection - The delicate organs are well protected by bone casing. For example, the skull provides protection to the delicate brain, and the rib cage protects the heart and lungs.​
  3. Blood cells formation - Blood cells such as RBCs and WBCs are formed in the marrow of certain long bones.
  4. Movement – The bones connected to one another allow movements by the action of muscles that originate on one bone and are inserted into another.
  5. ​ Storehouse of Calcium and Phosphorus - Bones store phosphorus and calcium for the entire body.​
