List out various high peaks, glaciers and passes of the Greater Himalayas. (2 marks)
Solution:
The Greater Himalayas are a continuous chain, consisting of very high peaks.
The average height of their peaks are 6100 metres.
Mount Everest is the highest peak in the Greater Himalayas, having a height of 8,848 metres. The other examples of the peaks are: Kanchenjunga, Makulu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Nanda Devi peak.
The mountain ranges are known to always be covered in snow. Therefore, the range is also known as the Himadri mountain range.
The greater Himalayas are also known to have many glaciers and passes in its region.
Example: The Gangotri and the Yamutori glaciers, and the Burzil pass, the Zoji-La pass, and the Shipki La pass.
