Solution:
  • The Greater Himalayas are a continuous chain, consisting of very high peaks.
  • The average height of their peaks are 6100 metres.
  • Mount Everest is the highest peak in the Greater Himalayas, having a height of 8,848 metres. The other examples of the peaks are: Kanchenjunga, Makulu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Nanda Devi peak.
  • The mountain ranges are known to always be covered in snow. Therefore, the range is also known as the Himadri mountain range.
  • The greater Himalayas are also known to have many glaciers and passes in its region.
  • Example: The Gangotri and the Yamutori glaciers, and the Burzil pass, the Zoji-La pass, and the Shipki La pass.
