Cytokinins are plant growth regulator which is produced at active cell dividing areas such as root tip, shoot tip, young buds, etc.

Functions of cytokinins:

  1. It promotes shoot growth and is used to initiate shoot growth in plant tissue culture.
  2. Helps in the removal of apical dominance initiated by auxins.
  3. Helps in the formation of chloroplast in plant leaves.
  4. Promotes nutrient mobilization and delays leaf senescence.
