What are the various types of industries?
Industries may be divided into three broad categories, namely primary, secondary and tertiary.
1. Primary industries : These include all those activities which are concerned with the extraction and production of natural resources. These industries may be further divided as follows :
(i) Extractive industries : These industries extract to draw out products from natural resources.
(ii) Genetic industries : These industries remain engaged in breeding plants and animals for their use in further production.
2. Secondary industries : These are concerned with using the materials which have already been extracted at the primary stage. Secondary industries may be further divided as follows :
(i) Manufacturing industries : These industries are engaged in providing goods through processing of raw materials and thus creating utilities . Manufacturing industries may be further divided into four categories on the basis of method of operations for production :
(a) Analytical industry
(b) Synthetic industry
(c) Processing industry
(d) Assembling industry
(ii) Construction industries : These industries are involved in the consumption of buildings, dams, etc.
3. Tertiary industries : These are concerned with providing support services to primary and secondary industries as well as activities relating to trade. These industries provide service facilities.
