Tranquilizers are used to reduce fear, tension, anxiety etc. They fall into two classes,major and minor.

Major tranquilizers are called antipsychotic agents or neuroleptics. They are used to treat major states of mental disturbances.

Minor tranquilizers are also called antianxiety agents or anxiolytes.These are used to treat mild states of anxiety and tension.
