Question

What are the weights (in gram) of groundnut, sunflower and soybean seeds before and after extraction of oil?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Let's take a basis of 100 gm sample each of groundnut, sunflower and soybean for this weight analysis,

Groundnut in normal gives 18 ml to 21 ml per 100 gm nuts,
Before oil extraction = 100 gm
After oil extraction = 100 - (18 to 21) = 79 to 82 gm

Sunflower in normal gives 32 ml per 100 gm of seeds,
Before extraction = 100 gm
After extraction = 100-32 = 68 gm

Soybean seed in normal gives 14 ml per 100 gm of seeds,
Before extraction = 100 gm
After extraction = 100-14 = 86 gm

By summarising the yield in percentile as,
Groundnuts = 18-21 %
Sunflower = 32%
Soybean = 14%

Hence among all sunflower yield is high when compared to others due to its increased content in monounsaturated fat while other two lower in quantity.

Regards.
