The three characteristics of a series circuit:

  1. Each component of a series circuit receives the same amount of current.
  2. The total equivalent resistance of the series circuit is equal to the sum of the individual resistances of that circuit.
    Req=R1+R2+R3+..
    where, Reqrepresents equivalent resistance, R1,R2,R3.. are the constituent resistances of the circuit.
  3. The voltage dropped by each component (load), which depends on the amount of resistance it provides, will vary in order to have the same current flowing through each component. And the circuit's supply voltage is equal to the total of all voltage drops across the circuit.
