What are Thyroid & Parathyroid glands? What is their importance in the body?

) Thyroid Gland: These are located on the anterolateral sides of trachea in neck region. It secretes two types of hormones:
1) Thyroxin - Controls growth of body and metabolic activities 2) Calcitonin - Controls calcium metabolism and calcium level in blood.

Parathyroid Glands: These are four in number located behind thyroid gland. It secretes hormone called as Parathormone that controls metabolism of calcium and phosphorus.
