Understanding the metals:

• They are also called $\mathrm{d}$-block elements as these elements have partly filled $\mathrm{d}$ -subshells.

Some general properties of transition elements:

• These are electropositive in nature.
• Most of them are colored compounds.
• They have a good tendency to form complexes.
• They exhibited several oxidation states, $+1,+2,+3\mathrm{etc}$.
• Their elements are generally paramagnetic in nature.
• They form alloys with other metals.
• They are hard, brittle, and have high melting and boiling point.
