Transfer cells: Transfer cells are altered parenchyma cells that comprise several secondary wall ingrowths.

  1. This feature in transfer cells enables cells to improve the transportation of minerals and water over shorter distances between the attached cells and themselves.
  2. These transfer cells are present at the terminal of files of vascular cells where they assist in loading and unloading sugars and other substances.
  3. Transfer cells have a larger surface area due to foldings of the cell membrane.
