Transitional elements: The elements from group 3 to group 12 of the modern periodic table are known as transition elements.

  • They are called transition elements because their properties are midway the properties of the elements on the left and elements on the right-hand side of the periodic table.
  • Transition elements are present in periods 4, 5, 6, and 7 as shown in the modern periodic table below.
  • Examples: Scandium(Sc), Manganese(Mn), Chromium (Cr) , etc.
