The two conditions that promote the corrosion are:

Presence of moisture

  1. Moisture is available in the atmosphere in the form of water fume, rain or dew promotes corrosion.
  2. On the surface of the metal, moisture can become immobile which transforms into an alkaline reaction with metals.

Reactivity of metals

  1. If the metal is more reactive then it effectively responds with toxins and other gases present in the air like nitrogen, chlorides carbon dioxide, and so forth.
  2. The metal on the highest point of the reactivity series is easily corroded.
