Solution

Cloned gene:

  1. A clone is an exact copy of the organisms, organs, single-cell, organelle, or macromolecule.
  2. The cell lines for medical research are derived from a single cell allowed to replicate millions of times, producing masses of identical cones.
  3. Gene cloning is the act of making copies of a single or particular gene.

Uses of the cloned genes are:

1. Production of medicine:

  1. Cloned genes are spliced into the DNA of another organism that is often a bacterium.
  2. It is genetically altered organisms now produce the protein the new gene codes.
  3. The source of insulin, human growth hormone, human clotting factor, cancer treatment drugs, and many others.

2. Gene therapy:

  1. It is a technique for correcting defective genes which are responsible for disease development.
  2. The normal gene may be inserted into a location on the DNA to replace a nonfunctional gene.
  3. A virus is often used to transfer normal genes.
