Solution

Vacuoles:

  1. Vacuoles are the single membranous sac-like organelles present in the cytoplasm of the cell.
  2. The surrounding membrane is called tonoplast.
  3. A fluid called cell sap is present in the vacuoles.
  4. One large vacuole is present in plants whereas animals have many small vacuoles.

Functions:

  1. Vacuoles maintain the turgidity of the cell therefore the cell remains in shape.
  2. Vacuoles act as the storage area as they store water, food materials like sugar, protein, amino acids and waste products.
