Solution

Vessels in plants:

  1. Elongated tube-like structures for the conduction of solutes and water are known as vessels.
  2. Plant vessels are made up of a row of cylindrical cells in longitudinal series.
  3. The partition walls of these vessels are perforated.
  4. The perforated areas of the wall are known as perforations.
  5. The two primarily found vessels in the plants are: Xylem and Phloem.

Xylem:

  1. Xylem tissues are a tubular-shaped structure, devoid of cross walls.
  2. They are present in roots, stems and leaves and found at the center of the vascular bundle.
  3. They transport soluble mineral nutrients and water molecules from the roots to all aerial parts (above the surface) of the plant.

Phloem:

  1. Phloem is a tubular-shaped, elongated, structure having walls with thin sieve tubes.
  2. They are present in stems and leaves, and found at the outer side of the vesicular bundle.
  3. They transport food and other nutrients i.e. sugar and amino acids from leaves to the storage organs as well as growing parts of the plant.
