  • In an organic compound, when one hydroxyl group is attached to a saturated carbon atom, the compound formed is called alcohol.
  • Vinyl alcohol is also called ethanol with the chemical formula (CH2CHOH).
  • A functional group having the formula H-C=CH2 is called the vinyl group. It has one hydrogen atom less than ethene.
  • When a hydroxyl group is attached to the vinyl group, vinylic alcohol is alcohol is formed.

  • The polymers derivatives, esters, and ether are the isolated form of vinylic alcohols.
  • The elimination of water from ethylene glycol produces vinylic alcohols and the process is called pyrolytic elimination.
