They help to carry oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues and carbon dioxide as a waste product away from the tissues and back to the lungs.They help to fight infection and protects the body against both infectious disease and foreign invaders. Their function is to react to bleeding by initiating a blood clot.
  • The cellular portion of blood consists 3 important components- red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
  • These blood cells are produced in the bone marrow.
