An autoimmune disorder occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys healthy body tissue by mistake.
Autoimmune diseases which affect the kidney are:
Lupus nephritis: It is a disease called systemic lupus erythematosus link (SLE or lupus) that leads to attacking the kidney. It causes acute kidney inflammation.
Henoch–Schönlein purpura (HSP): It causes bleeding and inflammation of the blood vessels causing painful swelling and reddish-purple spots on our extremities.
Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN): This is another vascular disease that causes inflammation, bleeding, and painful deformities in the renal blood vessels.
Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCAs): These are antibodies that target the immune cells (neutrophils). Their production results in this autoimmune disorder.
Sarcoidosis: These are the inflammations in the lymph nodes that accumulate in the organs.
