What biosafety level is anthrax?

Open in App
Solution

Anthrax:

  1. It is classified as the Hazard of group III pathogen due to its ability to cause disease and the potential to spread in the community.
  2. If left untreated, all types of anthrax can generally cause death. However, effective prophylaxis or treatment is usually available.
  3. BSL-3(Biosafety Level 3) laboratories are used to study the infectious agents or toxins which may be transmitted through the air and cause potentially lethal infections.
  4. Researchers perform all the experiments in a biosafety cabinet. BSL-3 laboratories are then designed to be easily decontaminated.
