Biosafety Level II:

  1. Biosafety level II covers laboratories that work with agents associated with human diseases (i.e. pathogenic or infections organisms) that pose a moderate health hazard.
  2. Biosafety level II includes agents which cause human diseases. For example: HIV, Staphylococcus aureus.
  3. Personnel working in the labs requires quite greater attention to prevent any kind of injuries such as cuts, ingestions, etc.

Practices can be carried out in biosafety level II laboratory:

  1. Use of protective equipment such as goggles, glasses, face shields, etc.
  2. The procedures which can cause infections are carried out in biological safety cabinets.
  3. The waste material should also be decontaminated before disposal.
  4. An eyewash & a sink should be readily available.
  5. Biohazard signs should also be provided.
