  1. Flatworms belong to Phylum Platyhelminthes.
  2. Flatworms are free-living or parasitic.

Body plan in flatworms:

  1. Flatworms have soft and flattened bodies.
  2. The bodies of flatworms are bilaterally symmetrical i.e. right and left sides of the body are similar.
  3. The bodies of flatworms do not have special respiratory system, skeletal system and circulatory system.
  4. No body cavity or coelom is present in flatworms. Thus, the body is acoelomate.
  5. Parenchyma, a spongy tissue fills the spaces between organs in the body of flatworms.
  6. The body of flatworms is derived from three cell layers. Thus, the body is triploblastic.

Thus, the body plan present in flatworms is bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic and acoelomate.
