Solution

Population Pyramid:

A population pyramid is a diagrammatic presentation of the population.

The population pyramid shows that:

  1. The total population is divided into various age groups e.g. 5 to 9 years, 10 to 14 years.
  2. The percentage of the total population is subdivided into males and females, in each of those groups.
  3. The shape of the population pyramid shows people living in that particular country.
  4. The numbers of children (below 15 years) are generally shown at the bottom and reflect the level of births.
  5. The size of the top shows numbers of aged people (above 65 years) and it reflects the number of deaths.
  6. The population pyramid also shows us how many dependents there are in the country.
  7. There are 2 groups of dependents — young dependents (aged below 15 years) & elderly dependents (aged over 65 years).
  8. Those of working age are economically active.
