Solution

Implantation:

The attachment of the embryo to the wall of the uterus in the early stage of pregnancy is said to be implantation.

The methods to prevent implantation are:

Implants:

  1. Implants are known as devices that are put under the skin that eliminates the use of contraceptive pills on the daily basis.
  2. It contains the hormone progesterone.
  3. The progesterone hormone is also released at a very slow rate into the blood, which prevents the release of ova from the ovary.
  4. It also forms a thick mucus plug in the neck of the cervix to prevent the entry of sperm into it.
  5. Injectable birth control- This method generally involves the injection of a progestin, Depo-Provera(DMPA—depo medroxyprogesterone acetate), given in the arm or buttocks once every 3 months.

Contraceptive injections:

  1. Contraceptive injection generally stops ovulation and it makes the fluid at the opening to the uterus thicker, stopping the sperm from getting into it.
  2. It can be used to treat women with menstrual problems.
  3. Some of the examples are cyclofem, mesigna, etc.

Implantable rods:

  1. Each rod is matchstick-sized, flexible, and plastic. A physician inserts the rod under the skin of the woman's upper arm.
  2. The rods then release progestin and can remain implanted for up to 5 years. It stops ovulation.
  3. This hormone also makes fluid at the opening to the uterus (womb) thicker, stopping sperm from getting through.
  4. The implant is then put in and taken out under local anesthetic by a specially trained doctor or nurse.
  5. Examples- Norplant, Implanon, etc.
