What can you say about the average density of a ship floating on water in relation to the density of water ?

Since the density of water is equal to 1$\frac{gm}{c{m}^3}$, for the ship to float its average density had to be less that 1$\frac{gm}{c{m}^3}$.This is acheived by the hollow and empty space in the ship.If it had density more than 1$\frac{gm}{c{m}^3}$ it would have sunk in the water.
