Dear student,
Vasopressin is formed in hypothalamus and stored in posterior pituitary which regulates kidney to conserve water. It maintains the amount of water in blood. Deficiency of vasopressin can be caused by reduced concentration of blood serum due to excessive drinking water. A disorder called central diabetes insipidus is also responsible for decreased osmolality of blood serum. In this disorder either formation of vasopressin in hypothalamus is hampered or release from posterior pituitary is hampered.
