Question

What causes the electrification of two bodies when they are rubbed together?

Open in App
Solution

Electrification of two bodies:

  1. When two bodies are rubbed together, electrons are transferred from one to the other.
  2. The body that loses electrons gains a positive charge, while the body that gains electrons gains a negative charge.
  3. When a glass rod is rubbed with a silk cloth, the glass becomes positively charged and the silk cloth becomes negatively charged.
  4. Electrons are extracted from the glass rod and transferred to silk cloth.
  5. Hence, the exchange of charges between the bodies causes the electrification of rubbed bodies.
