Japanese encephalitis(JE) is a potentially severe disease. JE iscausedby a virus spread by infected mosquitoes in Asia and the western Pacific. JE virus is one of a group of mosquito-transmitted viruses thatcan causeinflammation of the brain (encephalitis).Surviving JE sufferers may be left permanently disabled both physically and mentally. JE is caused by bites from Culex mosquitoes which carry the JE virus.
