What causes lipid disorders?

Lipids: These are biomolecules formed from long chains of hydrocarbons that are insoluble in water and include fats, oils, etc.

Lipid disorder: The abnormal levels of lipid in the blood lead to lipid disorder.

  1. If the lipid level is too low, it is called dyslipidemia.
  2. If the lipid level is too high, it is called hypolipidemia.
  3. The lipids become abnormal due to a diet high in fat, usable of drugs, lifestyle, and aging.

Causes:

The main causes of lipid disorder are as follows:

  1. Consumption of alcohol in excessive amounts.
  2. High-level cholesterol is caused due to sedentary lifestyle.
  3. Certain medicines also can increase lipids levels in the blood.
  4. Genetics is also a major cause of lipid disorders.
  5. Mutations in genes that regulate low and high-density lipoproteins also cause genetic disorders.

  1. Tay-Sachs
  2. Gaucher disease
  3. Acid lipase disease
  4. Wolman's disease
