What causes magnetic susceptibility?

Open in App
Solution

Magnetic susceptibility

  1. Magnetic susceptibility measures of how much a material will be magnetized in an applied magnetic field.
  2. It is denoted by χ.
  3. It is the proportion of induced magnetization to the applied magnetic field expressed as χ=MH where Mis magnetization and H is applied magnetic field.

Causes of Magnetic susceptibility

  1. The interaction between nuclei and electrons in the presence of applied magnetic is the main cause of magnetic susceptibility.
  2. Any material or atom that has more number of unpaired electrons will have a high value of susceptibility.
