Glaciers are made up of many layers of ice. The ice at the bottom is subjected to a lot of pressure because of the weight of the glacier. This pressure generates heat which melts the ice. The weight of the glacier causes the ice to move down the slopes of the mountains very slowly. The glacier can move anywhere between a few centimetres to about a hundred meters a day.
