  3. Pancreatic enzymes, also known as pancreases, pancrelipase, and pancreatin, are composed of amylase, lipase, and protease.
  4. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce sufficient digestive enzymes.
  5. EPI can cause inadequate nutrient absorption, weight loss, and vitamin deficiency.
  6. Cystic fibrosis and chronic pancreatitis are two of the major causes of EPI.
  7. EPI can be caused by any disorder that affects the pancreas and causes it to cease or inhibit the secretion of its enzymes.
