Also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH). It is a pituitary hormone that acts to promote the retention of water by the kidneys and increase blood pressure.
This hormone is produced by the hypothalamus in the brain.
Vasopressin is known to regulate blood pressure, blood osmolality, and blood volume.
Deficiency of vasopressin leads to Diabetes insipidus, which means dehydration as it works on the kidneys and stimulates reabsorption of water from the distal tubule
It causes damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland.
