Question 45
What changes are observed in the uterus subsequent to implantation of a young embryo?

Solution

The uterine wall thickens as it is richly supplied with blood. A special tissue which looks like a disc-type sac called placenta develops. It connects the growing embryo to the uterine wall. The placenta is the route through which nutrients and oxygen will be delivered to the developing embryo through its 36 weeks of gestation as a foetus inside the mother's womb.
