  5. They have a relatively low melting and boiling point.
  6. The reaction of such metals with halogens forms halides.
  7. When alkali earth metals react with water they form strong hydroxides so they are handled with care.
  8. Exception with Beryllium, because Beryllium does not form any hydroxide with water.
  9. Therefore, the alkaline earth metals are silvery-white in color.
