Coal and petroleum are resources which are non-renewable. They
will exhaust in due course of time. Coal and petroleum have been formed of
bio-mass degradation millions of years ago. Therefore, they have
carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur. When these are burnt, the
products are carbon dioxide, water, oxides of nitrogen and oxides of
sulphur. All of these are pollutants of the atmosphere. More use of
fossil fuels causes more and more release of these pollutants. Thus,
management of fossil-fuels is to be seen from the environmental and economic angle.
