Question

What condition of temperature and pressure favors the liquefaction of gases?

Open in App
Solution

  • The process of converting gases to liquid is known as liquefaction.
  • The space between gas particles is large and the force between them is negligible.
  • When high pressure is applied, the particles will come closer by leaving less space between them.
  • When they come close, they will lose their kinetic energy and a force of attraction comes into action.
  • The particles will become closely packed and will be slowly converted to liquid.
  • At lower temperatures, the kinetic energy of gases decreases so that their motion decreases.
  • So, high pressure and low-temperature help in liquefaction.
