  1. All objects are made up of atoms.
  2. Every atom has two types of charged particles- positively charged particles called protons and negatively charged particles called electrons.
  3. The flow of electrons in a conductor in a particular direction constitutes an electric current.

Hence, the net flow of electrons in one direction in a conductor constitutes an electric current.
