  • The constituents of central nervous system (CNS) are the brain and the spinal cord. The brain sits inside a fluid-filled balloon-like structure for shock absorption and this entire set-up is protected by hard bony skull. The spinal cord is protected by vertebral column, a hard, bony structure.
  • The peripheral nervous system (PNS) contains all the nerves in our body that lie outside of the spinal cord and brain.
